School Spotlight: Meghan Ofer, Assistant Principal

meganoferMeghan Ofer joined the Sage Canyon community this year as our Assistant Principal. Meghan, a fourth-generation Colorado native, was born in Denver and raised in Aurora, CO. She went to Smoky Hill High School, University of Northern Colorado (UNC), and spent a semester at University of Hawaii (sister school to UNC). After graduating, she moved to Kansas City for a few years to teach and be with her family who moved there when she was in college. While in Kansas City, she bravely cheered on her beloved Denver Broncos, earned an ESL Endorsement from Kansas State, and finished a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction at Avila University. Meghan missed the mountains and cool Colorado air, so she returned home and currently resides in beautiful Roxborough, where she lives with daily visits from black bears!

Meghan spent her childhood extremely active, playing softball, soccer, and gymnastics. She’s still very active and in her 21st season of snowboarding! She loves all things outdoor whether it’s hiking, camping, biking, wakeboarding, snowboarding, or nature photography. She also loves to surf after living in Hawaii and spending time every summer with her aunt in California. While Meghan finds fun things to do in every season, her favorite time of year is Fall. She loves the month of October because of her birthday, Halloween, the changing leaves, and the chilly fall weather. She should thoroughly enjoy our Harvest Festival and Spookfest festivities!

Over her 14-year career in education, Meghan has taught every grade level in elementary (except first grade). She knew she wanted to be a teacher from an early age. Meghan would beg her teachers at the end of every school year for extra worksheets and stickers so she could teach the neighborhood kids in her backyard clubhouse all summer. Most recently Meghan worked as an Instructional Coach at the middle school level. This leadership position is what inspired her to go into administration. Meghan received her Principal’s License in the summer of 2013. When asked if she missed teaching in the classroom, she noted that she desperately missed making connections with students in her classroom at first, but realized quickly she got the same fulfillment from the larger impact she can make as a school leader. She’s able to make connections with more students and families in a leadership role. Meghan is passionate about what she does and is happy to come to work every day!

More than her education, active lifestyle, and exciting experiences, Meghan is most proud of her “mini-me”, Ryann, who has joined the Sage Canyon family as a Kindergartener this year. Meghan describes Ryann as the sweetest, funniest, mellowest kid around. Meghan and Ryann have big plans for their future….when Ryann graduates from high school, they are planning a girls’ surfing trip to Costa Rica!

If you haven’t had a chance yet to introduce yourself, please stop by the school to say “Hi” and welcome Meghan and her family to our Sage Canyon family!
